Jυѕt depends уου сουld bе stationed аt a small boat station аnd gο out οn small boats. It іѕ depends οn thе needs οf thе service.

Cutters are USCG boats 65 feet or longer.

Spending your whole career ashore is possible but it depends on your rate — BM, MK, GM. MST, HS, AST, AET, AMT, PA, DC, YN, etc. There are a few that require sea time in an effort to earn qualifications. There are a few rates that are not typically on board cutters. It’s possible to serve at shore units while enlisting as one of the ship-borne ratings during your entire enlistment but you won’t be able to get promoted and they might kick you out for not getting promoted.

If your goal is to just serve 4 years as a BM and then become a cop, your goal is achievable. During boot camp, you’d request assignment to a small boat search and rescue (SAR) station or marine safety unit and then during BM “A” school you’d request another SAR station.
